I have gone through at least five designs on my personal website, most of which were done after upgrading the backend. All of the designs were made using semantic XHTML/CSS. The latest and current design uses unobtrusive Javascript to provide expanding/collapsing content. (The preview images are in reverse chronological order.)
The third and fourth designs are based on the same XHTML code and simply have different CSS and image files.
The first and second designs were built under the Textpattern Content Management System.
